Bukovany Mill

The windmill, which has become a dominant of the hill over the village of Bukovany visible from far away, was built and festively opened in 2004. The originator of the mill is Mr Josef Kouřil from Kyjov who thus realized his childhood dream and created a charming place which attracts thousands of visitors every year. The three-storey construction of the mill provides place for a small museum exposition of a nineteen-century village and a gallery where exhibitions of mainly South-Moravian artists are regulary organized. On the top floor there is an outlook terrace which offers beautiful views of the surroundings. While looking down from the mill tower you can see the region of Kyjovské Dolňácko with its small fields, orchards and vineyards, on the horizon there are clearly visible the ridges of the White Carpathians and the Chřiby Mountains, with good visibility you can see as far as 110km far away to the hill of Kobyla near Bratislava. On the ground floor of the mill there is a stylishly furnished fireplace room which can be used for social encounters and business meetings. Probabaly every old mill is linked with a legend or a fairy tale and Bukovany Mill conceals its secret as well. There is a treasure buried under the floor. For the future generations the builder of the mill hid witness to the times when the mill was built. You would not find there a chest of ancient coins or charred parchment, the underground of the mill hides a personal computer, a mobile phone or DVDs with films, the up-to-date signs of our civilization which in 100 or 200 years may become a real treasure. In 2007 a hotel complex emerged around the mill which was constructed in cooperation with Mr Josef Kouřil and Region Ltd. The hotel complex was built in a traditional style of Moravian Slovakia and puts the finishing touches to the composition of a traditional miller´s estate. One part of the complex is created by the „Miller´s House“ with a restaurant offering regional cuisine in the environment of stylish rustic interior, a tradit ional vaulted wine cellar with seating capacity and a rotunda with a vinotheque where you can taste the best wines of Kyjov wine-growing area. Quality accommodation, again in the rustic Slovakian style, is offered in the attic of the Miller´s House and another four detouched buildings – Slovakian Cottages. Traditional sale huts for folk craftsmen, an outdoor seating area, a small stage and a dance floor create a perfect background for a variety of cultural and social events which are regularly organized on the grounds of the windmill.
